AT THIS POINT, you may be wondering what I did to get myself designated as an Expendable. Must have been something awful, right? Murdered a puppy, maybe? Pushed an old lady down a staircase? Nope, and nope. Believe it or not, I volunteered The way they sell you on becoming an Expendable is that they dont call it becoming an Expendable. They call it becoming an Immortal. Thats got a much nicer ring to it, doesnt it?

I dont want to make it seem like Im an idiot. I knew what I was getting into, more or less, when I put my thumb to the contract. I sat in the recruiters office back on Midgard and listened to her entire spiel. Her name was Gwen Johansen. She was a tall, heavyset blonde, with an expressionless face and a voice that sounded like shed spent most of the morning swallowing gravel. She sat behind her desk, staring down at a screen in her hands, and read off a list of things that I might be required to do that would likely result in the death of that particular instantiation of me.

No doubt this novel is a truly original and well informed creation. Its tremendous story make this novel more interesting. n extremely powerful story. This theme, which has implications far beyond the obvious racial parallel, is skillfully handled. Got the chills so many times toward the end of this book. It completely blew my mind. It managed to surpass my high expectations and be nothing at all like I expected.
